The Minority Teacher Loan Program in Wisconsin is expanding thanks to legislation co-authored by State Representative Amy Loudenbeck of Clinton. The bill signed by the Governor Thursday would expand the current program. The law will allow minority teachers a chance to apply for student loan forgiveness, if they choose to teach in a Wisconsin school district where minority students constitute more than 40-percent. The current law is limited to Milwaukee. Loudenbeck says schools across Wisconsin are trying to close the achievement gap and research indicates hiring teachers of color can make a difference for students of color.
