Janesville mulling updates to fair housing code

The Janesville City Council will review the city’s fair housing code.
They’re introducing an ordinance change to repeal and recreate the code during their meeting Monday night.
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Fair Housing Council offered recommendations for the city to address their impediments to fair housing.
Neighborhood and Community Services Director Jennifer Petruzello said they’ll be updating some language in the code to reflect changes in state and federal law.
The proposed revisions also include a more simplified complaint process and increase forfeiture amounts for violators.
The city council will schedule a public hearing for the ordinance change before voting on approval at a future meeting.
