The Beloit Police Department says three officers were involved in the shooting death of an armed subject Tuesday afternoon.
Police chief David Zibolski said no officers were injured during the incident, and they aren’t releasing the names of anyone involved.
Police say the incident began when a Rock County Sheriff’s Deputy saw a suspected stolen vehicle and heard shots fired in the area of Henry Avenue and Riverside Drive.
Following a pursuit, the suspect took off on foot, and officers located him again a short time later in the 1800 block of Harrison Avenue, where he was seen armed.
The three officers shot and killed the suspect, who was pronounced dead just before 12:30 p.m.
Zibolski said the officers are being placed on administrative duty while the incident is under investigation by the state division of criminal investigation.
The School District of Beloit placed Merrill Elementary School, Robinson Elementary School and Aldrich Intermediate School on soft lockdown during the incident.
