Local legislator fights against referee abuse

WI State Assemblyman, Don Vruwink (D-43rd District) joins Tim this morning

A local legislator wants to help school districts attract referees. Don Vruwink of Milton is co-sponsoring a bill prohibiting the intimidation of any school sports official. Vruwink says young people no longer want to be sports officials because they’re suffering too much pressure and abuse from spectators and parents. The Democrat says in some sports like baseball and softball, there’s more officials over 65 than under 35. Some events are being canceled due to the lack of officials. Vruwink has co-authored a bill making it a crime to hit, shove, kick or intimidate a sports official, whether they’re paid or unpaid.
