Town of Beloit negotiating potential sale of former town hall property

The Town of Beloit Board of Supervisors is moving forward with negotiations to sell their former town hall property.
Town Administrator Gene Wright said an interested developer wants to remodel the existing buildings and add 11-15 duplex units on the 14-acre lot.
The township moved out of the building and into Fire Station No. 1 last year due to its failing infrastructure.
Depending on how many duplexes the developer puts on the property, Wright said the development could be as large as a $4.5 million project.
He believes the community is looking for higher-end rental properties as area vacancy rates remain low.
The developer would also redo the existing baseball diamond and donate that portion of the land back to the township.
Once the two sides negotiate a price, the development will have public hearings at both plan commission and town board meetings before the project can be approved.
