Edgerton School District officials are trying to determine what cause a gas leak at Edgerton High School Tuesday.
District Administrator Dennis Pauli said a gas line above the school library broke, prompting an evacuation of the school just after 1:30 p.m.
Firefighters and officials from Alliant Energy turned off the gas and located the leak on a rooftop unit above the school library.
Pauli said a rooftop air handler unit was bringing in the gas smell from the broken pipe.
Students evacuated to the nearby middle school, but they were able to return to their classrooms in time for a normal dismissal at the end of the school day.
Pauli said they don’t think the broken gas line is connected to referendum construction in the building.
