Diversity report shows changes in School District of Beloit administration

The latest diversity report from the School District of Beloit shows a recent decrease in administrators of color, while most other district positions remained steady in percentage of minority employees in recent years.
The 2019 Equal Employment Opportunity data lists 12 minority administrators in 2019, down from 17 in 2018. Over that same span, the number of white administrators increased from 20 to 33.
The percentage of minority administrators decreased from 48.72 percent in 2018 to 26.67 percent in 2019, the district’s lowest percentage since 2015.

The percentage of minority teachers decreased less than one percent from 2018 to 2019, now at 14.03 percent.
The district reports a total of 196 minority employees out of their 879 staff members, equal to 22.3 percent for the 2019-20 school year.
White employees currently make up 77.7 percent of their workforce, while white students make up 34 percent of their enrollment.
Beloit’s enrollment is also 34 percent Hispanic and 23 percent Black. Hispanic employees represent 7.3 percent of the school district, and 13.2 percent of the staff is listed as Black.
Human Resources Director Tonya Williams said the district has recruiting efforts planned in the next few months at Northern Illinois University, UW-Milwaukee’s spring education fair and a Wisconsin Education Recruitment Fair in Madison.
Executive Director of Business, Human Resources, and Operations Joann Armstrong said NIU has a high concentration of bilingual candidates due to their strong dual-language immersion programs.
Superintendent Dr. Stanley Munro said he’s also meeting with the Dean of Education at UW-Whitewater to try and create a “pipeline” between the university and the school district.
