More help for retail workers displaced by store closings

The Janesville-Beloit area has been hit hard by retail closings in recent years including Shopko, Gander Outdoors, Boston Store, Sears, Staples, Mauerer’s Market and J-C Penney just to name a few. Workforce Innovation Opportunities Act Supervisor Casey Dobson says the Rock County Job Center has additional grant money to enhance the Dislocated Retail Worker Program. Dobson the retail grant came of the U.S. Department of Labor to help with workers being displaced by all the closings of “Big Box” stores. Dobson says services include assessment of skill levels, workforce preparation activities, and funds for retraining.
