State Republicans pressure local representative

A local state representative knows what it’s like to be targeted by the opposition. Before a veto override attempt this week, Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke put out a news release asking if Representative Don Vruwink of Milton would submit to Democratic Party strong-arm tactics and reverse his support of a bill, reducing training hour requirements for Certified Nursing Assistants. Vruwink says no one from his side of the aisle strong-armed him. He says he became more aware of the issue after constituents asked him to vote against the veto-override. Vruwink was one of three Democrats who voted for the bill last year, but did not vote for the override.
