Another Rock County community is considering drafting a sex offender ordinance.

Town of Johnstown Town Board Chair Robert Mawhinney says the State Department of Corrections is considering placing 45-year-old Jonathon Schaefer at a residence in the 300 block of County Line Road.

Schaefer is currently residing at a Supervised Living Facility in Mauston after being convicted of first degree sexual assault of a child and second degree sexual assault in 1992.

Mawhinney says that while the town doesn’t get any say in where the Department of Corrections places Schaefer, they want to take action to have more say in where future sex offenders are placed.

At their meeting Monday night, the town Board is expected to direct the town attorney to begin drafting an ordinance regulating where sex offenders are allowed to live.
