A local legislator is applauding the Governor’s decision to create a task force on student debt. Assembly Representative Don Vruwink of Milton calls it a $24 billion problem in Wisconsin with more than 900 thousand people grappling with excessive payments. The Democrat says people are putting off having children, buying homes, and getting involved in the economy. He says the goal is not debt forgiveness, but finding ways to make the debt more affordable. The governor created the task force by executive order with the goal of providing long-term strategies to reduce education-related debt, prevent abusive practices by loan companies, and improve financial literacy education.
