Janesville City Manager Mark Freitag offers a glowing assessment during his annual State of the City address. Freitag told a full city council chambers Thursday night, not only is the state of the city strong, but it is booming. He says that’s something we need to wrap our arms around, because that hasn’t always been the case. The city manager backed up his declaration with a number of facts. Highlights included Janesville’s strong economic position with property value increases almost double the state average, unemployment little more than 3%, and retail sales tax revenues breaking records. The city manager also looked ahead to a new year filled with continued downtown improvements, redevelopment of the old General Motors manufacturing site, and advancements in public services.
