A Milton couple is making progress on converting a former Milton College dorm into guesthouse bed and breakfast.
April Yohanek and her husband Nick live on the third floor of Goodrich Hall and started renting out lower rooms on AirBnB.
They both work full time, so updating the 150-year-old building has become their passion project on the side that’s brought the family closer together.
She said they’re taking it slow. They started with one room and then chipped away at the shared bathroom space, which they hope to convert to more of a European-style hostile.
The Yohaneks want to turn the first floor into a gallery and lounge area to eventually host small private events. In the meantime, area photographers have rented the space out for photo shoots in front of the historic exposed brick.
Before they purchased it in 2018, the first two stories held an antique shop, which moved to a new location.
Last summer was their first season booking overnight guests, and Yohanek said the family has made new friends and connections through the process that make all the effort worth it.
