A former professional football player uses his sports past to connect with students at Edison Middle School in Janesville. Former Defensive Back Ray McElroy used his failures on the field to illustrate resilience. McElroy says even though he got knocked down, he didn’t stay down. His celebrity status appeared to resonate with the sixth-through-eighth graders Thursday as he talked to them about how important their choices are in determining the outcome of their life. The six-year NFL veteran of the Colts, Lions, and Bears focused much of his talk on making good choices when it comes to drugs and alcohol, bullying, and choosing role models.
