Beloit school board weighing options for next superintendent search

The Beloit School Board is planning their next superintendent search, starting with how they want to find their candidates.

Current interim co-superintendent Bill Beckley suggested the district consider hiring the Wisconsin Association of School Boards to aid in the search.

He cited WASB’s experience in the hiring process and specific understanding of the state’s education system, as compared to national firms.

Because the previous superintendent Dr. Stanley Munro resigned so soon after being hired, the search firm the board used last year is offering a free search for his replacement, as part of their contracted agreement.

Some school board members expressed hesitancy to utilize Ray and Associates again, but they agreed to hear presentations from the firm and the WASB within the next few weeks, before deciding how to move forward.

The board also discussed the importance of including input from the public as well as teachers and administrators throughout the process. Board president Jeff Klett emphasized focusing on each candidate’s people skills rather than just their academic plans for the district.
