A 19-year-old woman is in the hospital and a 22-year-old man is in jail after a gun went off in a home on Highway G in the town of La Prairie Sunday afternoon.
According to Rock County sheriff’s officials, Kolton Downing, who was visiting the house, was handling a gun when it went off. The woman was shot in the lower abdomen.
The woman was taken to a hospital but is expected to recover.
Downing has been arrested and faces multiple charges, including causing injury by negligent operation of a dangerous weapon, possession of a handgun during a crime, and drug possession charges.
Downing is expected to appear in court later this week.
