The Beloit City Council votes to declare a public health emergency effective Monday night.

City Manager Lori Curtis-Luther said the declaration gives the city more options to acquire needed resources, and it will allow city council members to participate remotely in the future.

The emergency includes standard language that would allow the city to impose curfews, but Curtis-Luther said they have not entertained the possibility as of yet.

If Beloit were to implement a curfew, Curtis-Luther said it would be widely communicated to the community.

The city activated its emergency operations center on Friday, and it is suspending transit operations to only on-demand service.

All Beloit municipal court is also suspended for at least the next 60 days.
