The city of Janesville is urging residents not to flush “wipes” down the toilet. Utility Director Dave Botts says wastewater treatment plant works saw a large increase in the amount of “flushable” wipes this week. Botts speculates a toilet paper shortage caused by panic buying over coronavirus may have prompted the problem. He says the wipes can clog up equipment at the treatment plant, or even cause sewer back-ups into people’s homes. Botts urges residents not to flush anything extra down the toilet other than toilet paper.
