Governor Tony Evers’ mandate limiting the size of childcare operations is forcing groups like Community Action to restructure its services.
Interim Deputy Director Marc Perry said their Community Kids Learning Center in Janesville has had to cut back from more than 130 kids to the state limit of 50.
They haven’t had to turn anyone away yet, and they’ve gotten creative with scheduling to serve more than 50 kids over the course of a day, just not all at the same time.
Perry said many parents working from home are now able to care for their own children, and some have pulled their kids out of childcare over fears of exposure to coronavirus.
He emphasized their extremely high sanitation standards, and they’re having any sick kids stay home until their symptoms go away.
