The Rock County Jail is letting inmates on a work-release program return home, to help prevent any potential spread of COVID-19.
Rock County Sheriff Troy Knudson said the jail ordered more electronic monitoring bracelets to still ensure prisoners comply with the rules of their confinement.
Under the HUBER program, qualifying inmates are allowed to leave during the day to go to work, but normally they’re required to return to the jail for the night.
Jail staff were concerned about these workers being exposed to the coronavirus in the public and bringing it back to the jail, where it could spread quickly.
Knudson said they’re working with the parole and probation department to reduce the jail population and limit the potential exposure of inmates and jail staff.
The sheriff is providing daily video updates about their COVID-19 procedures on the Rock County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
