The Janesville Performing Arts Center can’t host any shows in its theater during the coronavirus outbreak, but executive director Nathan Burkhart is still finding ways he can bring the arts to his community.
He and his team are working through more creative ways to host performances virtually and provide a source of positivity during these isolated times.
JPAC is launching a series “Virtual Venue Home Sessions” where Burkhart will stream artists’ performances live on their Facebook page.
The shows will be public and free to stream, but JPAC is working with the artists to create virtual tip jars so viewers can reward them for the performance.
Burkhart is also organizing what he’s calling JPAC’s “Home Movie Festival” asking the community to record and submit home movies while everyone is stuck inside.
He emphasized that they don’t need to be professional quality or well edited. His team will be compiling them into a trailer, and then they plan to hold a complete movie screening at the theater when the pandemic has passed.
