The Janesville City Council extends overnight parking privileges to the homeless for another six months. The council met in special session Tuesday to extend the current ordinance six months allowing the use of the municipal lot on Jackson Street across the street from the police stations. Council members discussed the need for a more satisfactory location and permanent solution. Councilmember Tom Wolfe mentioned a disconnect between a committee formed from a number of community groups unanimously choosing Traxler Park, while the council unanimously chose Jackson Street. Council member Paul Williams suggested the parking lot of the soon to be Rock County Social Services Center in the old Pick ‘n Save Grocery Store. Council President Rich Gruber says he plans to call a meeting as soon as possible with the interested parties to discuss the issue.
