Senior citizens in Beloit’s Merrill and Hackett neighborhoods are getting some help with their groceries thanks to a local non-profit.

Community Action applied for and received a $3,000 emergency grant from the Stateline Community Foundation to pay for food and supplies for the low-income seniors at higher risk for COVID-19.

Interim Deputy Director Marc Perry said his staff reached out the seniors to gauge the need and will start deliveries this week. They hope to reach 20 households by the end of next week.

The community service provider wanted to help a vulnerable population get its essentials, especially for those on a fixed income or with mobility limitations.

The grant comes from a COVID-19 fund set up by the Stateline Community Foundation to provide resources to combat the pandemic.

Perry said making the deliveries also helps show community members that they have support and their neighbors care about them during this difficult time.
