The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, doubling in Rock County over the span of one week, is not lost on Janesville’s city manager. Mark Freitag says the exponential growth of patients has prompted his decision to authorize the purchase and construction of “Surge” shelters at each of the hospitals in Janesville. Freitag also urges residents to continue following “safe at home” and “social distancing” recommendations, adding projections from the Rock County Health Department indicate more than one-thousand people could be hospitalized by early May otherwise.
