The Rock County Public Health Department fulfills the request of local officials and releases a map of COVID-19 cases by zip code.
The data as of April 9 shows 10-plus cases in 53511 and 53546 zip codes, which cover much of the city and town of Beloit as well as Janesville south and east sides.
Janesville’s west side, in the 53548 zip code, has between five and nine cases according to the map, and every other zip code in Rock County has fewer than five cases.
Janesville city leaders and others have been urging Public Health Officer Marie-Noel Sandoval to release more geographic information about where the COVID-19 cases are located so they can better react to the pandemic.
Local first responders are only notified about where a coronavirus patient lives if the dispatch center receives a 9-1-1 call to an address that belongs to one of the confirmed positive cases.
Health officials stress that testing is so limited in Rock County that the data does not reflect the full extent of the outbreak in any area, and citizens should assume everyone they come in contact with could be carrying the virus.
As of Monday afternoon, Rock County has had 60 positive COVID-19 tests with 1,002 negatives and three deaths. Oak Park Place senior living facility has produced 12 of the positive cases and two of the deaths.
