Janesville homicide suspect extradited to Rock County, held on $50,000 cash bond

A suspect in Janesville’s first homicide of 2020 is back in Rock County after being extradited from Tennessee.
U.S. Marshalls arrested 24-year-old Corvasie Weaver on March 23, and he made his initial appearance in Rock County Court on Wednesday, when a judge set a $50,000 cash bond to ensure his future court appearances.
He faces a single charge of first-degree reckless homicide after police accused him of shooting and killing 40-year-old James C. Chestnutt III on January 5.
Police say Weaver lived in Joliet, Illinois but was in Janesville that night for a party in the 600 block of West Racine Street.
Witnesses told police that Weaver and Chestnutt started arguing about the party running out of alcohol. Officers recovered 8 to 10 shell casings on the sidewalk in front of the residence.
Weaver is scheduled to return to court again on Monday.
