The effects of COVID-19 may linger long after the economy reopens. With so many businesses shuttered and employees laid-off, Rock County sales tax revenues have evaporated. County Executive Josh Smith says priorities must first address those in need during the crisis, but the anticipated shortfall is expected to be close to $2 million, if he “Safe-at-Home” order is lifted at the end of May. Smith says the budget area likely to be impacted the most will be capital projects.
