A Beloit man adds to his prison time after his probation from a previous crime was already revoked.
34-year-old Ronald Hicks pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree recklessly endangering safety as a party to a crime, and a second charge of party to the crime of attempted first-degree intentional homicide was dismissed but read into record as part of a plea agreement.
Rock County Judge Barbara McCrory followed the joint recommendation from Assistant District Attorney Mary Bricco and defense lawyer Michael Murphy, sentencing Hicks to two years of initial confinement followed by two years of extended supervision.
The new period of confinement will run concurrent to the incarceration he is already serving because his involvement in the attempted homicide violated his probation.
Hicks was accused of driving a vehicle involved in what Judge McCrory called “a drug deal gone wrong,” just south of Janesville.
Police said the victim had set up a drug deal with 26-year-old Virgil Tate of Beloit, and Tate is accused of shooting the buyer after he attempted to take the drugs without paying.
Tate is also facing attempted homicide and recklessly endangering safety charges. His case is currently scheduled for a jury trial at the beginning of June.
