Bars and restaurants in Janesville could soon be allowed to sell more alcohol.
The Janesville City Council is holding a special meeting Tuesday morning, when it will discuss a few small changes to its alcohol ordinances.
The proposal would allow Class B liquor license holders to sell unopened hard liquor to customers, and it would expand all Class A and B liquor licenses to include curbside pickup.
Under the city’s current ordinances, these establishments are only allowed to sell prepackaged fermented malt beverages, like beer, wine coolers, ciders and hard seltzers for off-site consumption.
City Clerk Dave Godek said growlers for draft beer also qualify.
State law already allows businesses to sell unopened intoxicating liquor, but Godek said local businesses can’t until the ordinance allows it.
The new ordinance would make intoxicating liquor sales permanent, but the curbside pickup extension would only last until Governor Tony Evers ends the state’s safer-at-home order.
