The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is working to mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19 after a correctional officer at the jail tests positive for the coronavirus disease.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said it will be increasing its monitoring and testing protocols that were already in place to try and prevent an outbreak.

Every officer who interacted with the person who tested positive will also be sent home and monitored, and they will be replaced by officers who were on “reserve” status as part of their contingency plan.

The sheriff’s office said the affected officer has shown “relatively minor” symptoms thus far, and the county is conducting contact tracing to assess the risk at the jail.

Multiple inmates have contacted WCLO with concerns about their safety and sanitation within the Rock County Jail, which jail administrators have refuted.

So far, the jail has not had any inmates test positive for COVID-19, and as of Monday afternoon, none of them are exhibiting any symptoms.
