The Beloit Police and Fire Commission is getting back to the business of hiring a new fire chief. The pandemic prompted the commission last month to delay the process for 30-days. Commission President Mardell Jacobsen says the original goal was to do everything in person, because that’s how it’s always been done. Jacobsen says that stance has changed after seeing how other agencies are using virtual technology. The commission now plans to meet in closed session Wednesday to select finalists from the 23 applicants. The hiring process started last July after former Chief Brad Liggett departed for the fire chief’s position in Freeport, Illinois.
