Local pet groomers rushing to re-open after updated Governor’s order

Humans will still have to wait, but pets can start getting professional haircuts again in Wisconsin starting at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The latest order from Governor Tony Evers allows pet groomers like Michelle Crossley from Down Town Hound in Beloit to get back to work, so long as the dogs and cats are dropped off and picked up curbside.

Crossley said she has more than a month’s worth of backlogged appointments back on the schedule, and she anticipates business won’t slow down anytime soon.

She’s glad to be re-opening, but she wishes the governor would have given more advanced notice. Evers’ order was issued on Monday, giving Crossley about a day and a half to reschedule all of her customers eager to have their pets cleaned and trimmed.

She anticipates that the surge of extra business will help make up for much of her lost revenue from March, but she’ll be working long days, every day, to fit all her appointments in.

Crossley is also offering a free dog toenail clipping service on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

“I’ll have it where people can drive up, and I’ll take their leash, and I’ll have table outside on the sidewalk,” Crossley said. “I’ll trim their dog’s toenails, put them back in their car and let the people drive away.”

Evers’ latest step toward dialing back the state’s lockdown also allows lawn mower repair shops, car washes and watercraft rentals to resume business.
