A Janesville woman may be glad she saved her receipt from a local jeweler after police used it to link a Rockford teen to a November burglary at her home.
Prosecutors field charges of burglary and misdemeanor theft against 19-year-old Justin Woolwine in Rock County Court on Tuesday, and he is already facing multiple burglary charges in Winnebago County Court in Illinois.
Woolwine is accused of breaking into a home on Hillcrest Drive in Janesville near Palmer Park on November 7, stealing roughly $1,400 worth of jewelry, silverware and a guitar.
Rockford police connected Woolwine to multiple burglary investigations in Winnebago County. When officers searched his vehicle, they found a receipt from Bay Design Custom Jewelers in Janesville that belonged to the local woman.
Police also used GPS location data from Woolwine’s cell phone to place him at the home during the time of the burglary, which he later admitted to.
Court records indicate Woolwine is in custody in the Winnebago County Jail and will need to be extradited to Wisconsin before he can face his charges in Rock County.
