Four local charities are getting a financial boost from the United Way Blackhawk Region. President and CEO Mary Fanning-Penny says more than $24,000 in grants are being awarded through the United Way’s COVID-19 Action Fund. The latest recipients include Agrace Hospice to help meet the needs of patients and staff, Family Promise of Greater Beloit for hotel/motel vouchers to shelter families, House of Mercy Homeless Shelter for the purchase of hotel/motel vouchers, and the YMCA of Northern Rock County to reduce the hourly charge for childcare of essential workers. Fanning-Penny says the fund total has topped a quarter-million dollars including the $100 thousand seed money from the United Way.
