Janesville man sentenced to prison for fatal crash in Iowa

A Janesville man will spend the next 15 years in prison for his role in a deadly crash last fall in Iowa.
24-year-old Tomas Berk, who listed a Janesville address in court records, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide by reckless driving and serious injury by vehicle in Iowa’s Cerro Gordo County Court Tuesday.
Police say Berk was under the influence of a controlled substance while driving a vehicle that crashed in a ditch last September near Mason City, in north central Iowa.
Two of his passengers were ejected from the vehicle. 18-year-old Dominic Clifford suffered serious injuries, and 21-year-old Madisyn Ensign later died at a hospital as a result of the crash.
A Cerro Gordo County judge sentenced Berk to a total of 15 years of prison for the two charges. A separate charge of vehicular homicide while operating under the influence was dropped as part of a plea agreement.
