Fire shuts down a turbine at the Centerway Dam generating plant in downtown Janesville. Deputy Fire Chief Jim Ponkauskas says flames could be seen coming from the turbine when the first crew arrived a little before 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon. Ponkauskas says operators couldn’t tell if the turbine was still generating electricity so firefighters were forced to used chemical extinguishers. Damage was contained to a single generator. The cause is as yet undetermined. No one was injured.
