Racial justice protesters are seeking change from Rock County judges and prosecutors.

A few dozen activists demonstrated outside of the Rock County Courthouse Thursday, citing the high incarceration rate of Black people in the state of Wisconsin.

Organizers called for holding elected officials accountable and educating the public on existing racial justice disparities in the community.

Speakers included Reverend Michael Bell, activist Yusuf Adama, public defender Walter Isaacson and Alfonso Randall, who identified himself as a member of the Janesville Black Panther party.

Some spoke about a lack of diversity in the Janesville Police Department and Rock County Sheriff’s Office and shared examples of racial profiling they’ve experienced from local law enforcement.

They emphasized the importance of remaining peaceful, working together and building a strong community to enact the change they want to see.

An additional demonstration speaking out against racism will be held Friday night in Beloit from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Riverside Park.
