A high-speed chase through Janesville ends after the suspect driver crashes his vehicle on the city’s near south side.
The Wisconsin State Patrol initiated the pursuit on southbound Interstate 39/90 after receiving a report of a man pointing a gun at another vehicle.
Sergeant Dean Sukus with the Janesville Police Department said Quivadas Gaines drove down the wrong lanes toward oncoming traffic on the interstate and later again on Centerway Avenue when Janesville officers picked up the pursuit near Milton Avenue.
Sukus said Gaines was driving recklessly at high speeds, to the point where officers lost track of him on Center Avenue near Racine Street.
They soon discovered the car crashed into a traffic light at the intersection of Center Avenue and Rockport Road, causing significant damage to the vehicle.
Gaines fled the crash scene on foot, and Sukus said two people at the BP Gas Station on Center Avenue cornered him behind the convenience store until officers arrived and arrested him.
He did not have a firearm on his person when he was arrested, and officers recovered two facsimile firearms in his vehicle.
Gaines was wanted for an armed robbery that occurred in Madison earlier in the day.
