A Beloit man no longer faces two charges of possession of child pornography in Rock County Court after prosecutors moved to dismiss them.
19-year-old Coreyon Greer was first charged in June of 2019 after Beloit police found his smartphone on the passenger seat of a vehicle that had been operated by the victim of a shooting in August of 2018.
Assistant District Attorney Perry Folts said the images they found were two thumbnails that had been deleted off of the phone.
He said the analyst at the state crime lab found no evidence of searches for child pornography, and they believe these items could have possibly come up as an advertisement while searching for adult pornography.
As a result, the district attorney’s office doesn’t think Greer was attempting to knowingly possess the child pornography, so they dropped the charges outright.
Greer still pleaded no contest to unrelated misdemeanor charges of possession of THC, possession of a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon and felony bail jumping.
Rock County Judge John Wood withheld sentencing Tuesday and placed Greer on probation for two years with the opportunity to dismiss the felony bail jumping charge if he completes his supervision.
