Construction crews already have the first walls up for the future Lincoln Academy public charter school in Beloit.
The non-profit Kids First Beloit held the official groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday on Henry Avenue next to the Eclipse Center, where Diane Hendricks and other community leaders spoke about the importance of adding this educational option for students and families.
The school is still finalizing its charter contract with the UW Office of Educational Opportunity, which will provide oversight and accountability on the project, but The Lincoln Academy plans to begin enrolling in February and welcome students to the building next fall.
At full capacity, the free charter school plans to serve 700 4K-12th grade students, which represents roughly 10 percent of the School District of Beloit’s enrollment.
Hendricks said building this school brings her “the greatest pleasure and the greatest fulfillment” of her life.
