The Beloit Snappers will no longer be called the Beloit Snappers next season.

The team announced Friday they will officially pick a new name following a fan vote this fall.

Prior to this announcement, the minor league baseball team had left open the possibility to keep the Snappers name for the future, depending on how fan voting played out.

Prospective owner Quint Studer said they will continue to honor the Snappers name in the 2021 season, wearing classic Snappers uniforms for every Sunday game.

“We have been so impressed with the creativity of the team names our fans suggested and are excited to present the finalists to the community,” Studer said in a press release. “We’re excited to develop a brand for Beloit Baseball that represents our town and our region, that carries the fun, creative spirit of Minor League Baseball, and that will bring attention from baseball fans across the nation to our beautiful city.”

The team will also play part of their season at the existing Pohlman Field until construction is finished on their new ABC Supply Stadium downtown.

The Snappers will begin announcing the five finalists for their new name on Monday, following thousands of submissions from fans last month.

The fan vote for the new name will last from September 11 through September 25.
