A Wisconsin broadband internet company is conducting a survey of rural Rock County residents to support a grant application for expanded internet access.

Bug Tussel Wireless partnered with several local townships to apply for broadband grants from the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, but they did not receive funding last year.

Governor Tony Evers announced an additional $5 million in funding for these PSC grants on Wednesday, and Bug Tussel needs the survey data to strengthen the application for rural Rock County.

Director of Network Real Estate Jay Wendt said the feedback from residents helps them identify the gaps in existing broadband coverage for both homes and businesses.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the need for better access to broadband internet, and Bug Tussel hopes to fill the local gap as it’s done in other counties across the state.
