Some veterans may have a surprise bill coming in the mail in January.

State Senator Janis Ringhand says the VA suspended billing statements for healthcare co-payments in April of 2020 as a way to ease financial stress due to COVID-19.

The Evansville Democrat says the VA expects to resume mailing patient co-payment statements in January, 2021 and patients will be responsible for all of the co-pays they were not billed for between April of 2020 and then.

Ringhand says even though billing statements to Veterans have been suspended since April, the VA has continued to bill third party insurance carriers.
