Rock County arts groups receive over $100,000 in funding from Governor Tony Evers’ COVID-19 cultural organization grant program.
The Janesville Performing Arts Center earned the biggest award of over $47,000, while the Rock County Historical Society, Milton Historical Society, Beloit International Film Festival and Beloit-Janesville Symphony Orchestra all received over five figures.
BJSO Executive Director Edie Baran said their $17,000 grant will help cover around half of their losses for the year from cancelled events and performances.
Baran said they’re putting together programing to be ready as soon as they are allowed to perform again in-person at JPAC and other area venues.
The state grant program was originally set at $5 million total, but the department of administration ended up awarding over $15 million from the federal CARES act funding received by the state.
