The first COVID-19 vaccine is expected to come to Rock County later this month.
Rock County Public Health Department Assistant Director Michelle Bailey said the FDA is expected to approve the Pfizer vaccine for emergency use in the next week, which could clear the way for distribution.
On a conference call with members of Forward Janesville Tuesday, Bailey said she anticipates the immunization to reach our area by the end of the year or the first week of 2021.
The CDC is recommending that the first people who should be vaccinated are health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities.
Bailey said the vaccine likely won’t be available for low-risk members of the general population until late spring or early summer of next year, but she is confident in the safety and effectiveness of the two-dose vaccinations.
