The suspect in a Janesville double homicide will be held in the Rock County jail on a $2.125 million cash bond.
34-year-old Marcus Randle El of Homewood, Illinois is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide for shooting and killing 30-year-old Seairaha Winchester and 27-year-old Brittany McAdory in February.
He also faces felony charges of armed carjacking and possession of a firearm by a felon for stealing one of the victim’s vehicle after the shooting occurred and fleeing to the Chicago area.
Investigators spoke with friends of Winchester, who said Randle El threatened to kill her in the days leading up to the homicide. The witnesses said he was known to be a drug dealer, and he accused Winchester and others of stealing from him.
Randle El, a former Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver, spent the last 10 months in an Illinois prison for violating parole from an unrelated case.
Assistant District Attorney Gerald Urbik requested a $5.1 million cash bail to ensure Randle El’s appearance in court, which defense attorney Michael Hart called “grossly excessive.”
Family members of the victims who addressed the court Thursday shared concerns over Randle El being able to pay a significant cash bond because his brother is former NFL wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, who is currently an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
