A non-profit in Beloit works to make sure school staff look a lot more like the students.

Grow Your Own Scholarship Program Committee Member and McNeel Intermediate School Principal Michelle Hendrix-Nora says students of color who major in education with the intention of returning to Beloit to teach can earn up to $5000 a year for tuition.

Hendrix-Nora says the program is funded through donations with a major contribution from former State Senator Tim Cullen launching the program.

The scholarship is administered by the Stateline Community Foundation.
