The Beloit Police Department has little progress to report on the investigation of the unsolved October homicide of 26-year-old Chelsey Payton.
Interim Police Chief Thomas Stigler told the Beloit Police and Fire Commission Monday that detectives are still working to track down potential witnesses to the October 3 shooting.
Stigler said as many as 100 people were gathered at the event where the shooting occurred near Park and Grand Avenues.
Many of those attendees were from Illinois, which has made it difficult to reach them.
Stigler is keeping the victim’s family as informed as he can, but he is limiting which details he will share with the public in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
