Rock County is losing one of its most respected leaders in local journalism.
Adams Publishing Group regional editor Sid Schwartz announced his retirement Thursday.
Schwartz was the long-time editor of the Janesville Gazette and expanded his role to include the Beloit Daily News last fall.
His announcement comes after his wife Julie passed away last month after a long battle with illness.
Under Schwartz’ leadership, the Gazette has been named Newspaper of the Year by the Wisconsin Newspapers Association for six consecutive years.
Gazette reporters credit much of their individual growth to Schwartz’ guidance, and his presence in the newsroom will be missed by all.
Adams Publishing Group will seek internal candidates to replace him before exploring a potential external search.
