The Beloit Public Library gives the two state superintendent candidates a platform to share their views with the community.

Dr. Deborah Kerr and Dr. Jill Underly participated in separate public forums this week with library director Nick Dimassis.

The discussions were titled “A Vision For Our Libraries” and both candidates emphasized the importance of school and public libraries for student learning.

Dr. Kerr hit on a recurring theme of partnerships and collaborations for the Department of Public Instruction, to have fewer groups operating “in silos.”

Dr. Underly stressed the value of continuous learning through the help of libraries, an extension of the Wisconsin Idea utilized by the UW system.

The non-partisan position is the only statewide race up for election on the April 6 ballot.
